This is the music video for “Diary Of A Godman,” a new song by Imari Tones and the title track from our album of the same name, released on July 22, 2026.
As the title clearly suggests, this song is a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne.
With this song, we set out to create a Christian counterpart to Ozzy’s world—a song that explores the razor-thin line between madness and faith. Musically, it draws inspiration from the classic metal sounds of the 1970s and 1980s, while also embracing a progressive rock spirit. Lyrically, it deals with themes of religion, human weakness, sin, redemption, and the mysteries of faith.
Because the song walks so close to the edge between faith and madness, some serious-minded Christians may find it uncomfortable. But that tension is precisely what heavy metal has always been about: confronting difficult truths, exploring the darker corners of the human soul, and searching for meaning beyond them.
Featuring Jon Lockett as “Godman”
Jon Lockett, featured here as the “Godman,” is a passionate Christian metalhead from the United Kingdom and a longtime supporter of Imari Tones. (He is currently the bassist for the Italy-based metal band Nocturnal Flame.)
He visited Japan in October 2023, shortly after we launched the Heavy Metal Church project. During that visit, he attended one of our very first Heavy Metal Church worship events.
For many years, we had carried the idea of creating a Christian version of the “Madman” concept. When we met Jon in person, we immediately felt that he perfectly embodied the image we had in mind. His appearance, personality, faith, and love of heavy metal made him the ideal person to represent the character at the heart of this song.
This music video combines footage of Jon Lockett with live footage from Heavy Metal Church Vol.4 “Numbers,” held on June 6, 2026.
Through this video, you’ll get a glimpse of what Heavy Metal Church Japan is all about. At the same time, it presents the image of a Christian metalhead: someone who loves both Jesus Christ and heavy metal, and who lives on that mysterious border between faith and madness.
We dedicate this song and video to heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne, to our beloved “Godman” Jon Lockett, and to Christian metal fans around the world.
One final note: while this song is clearly inspired by Ozzy and the spirit of “Diary Of A Madman,” it is entirely our own interpretation. No musical material from Ozzy’s classic song was copied or borrowed in the writing of this piece.
